2012 Finance Committee work plan.

Committee Recommendation:
Move to approve the Finance Committee Work Plan, as submitted.

City Manager's Recommendation:
As recommended by Finance Committee, move to approve the work plan as submitted.

Staff time is available to assist the Committee with the proposed workplan. Additional referrals may have implications for staff time/resource avilability, depending on the issue and nature of referral.

Background and Analysis:
Per Council guidelines, each Council committee is to annually submit a workplan which "is based on referred items carried over from the prior year, plus committee member and staff knowledge of emerging issues/policies. The draft work plan is forwarded to the full Council for review and approval as a Consent Calendar item."

The proposed Finance Committee work plan is submitted with the understanding that the schedule may evolve. A major focus of the committee is to analyze emerging issues. The schedule is intentionally open to allow time to address emerging issues.

The Finance Committee has also established a schedule of regular committee meetings as follows: September 13 at 5:00 p.m., October 11 at 3:00 pm, and the following months on the second Thursday at 5:00 pm - which will contine as the regular meeting date until changed by the Finance Committee. Public notice of the upcoming and regular meeting dates has been given as required by State law. Special meetings may be scheduled, if needed, and will be appropriately noticed.

The committee proposes keeping some dates open at this time to be able to accommodate referrals throughout the year or extended discussions on scheduled topics.
