Background and Analysis:
The City's Street Operations Program, part of Public Works Transportation, has arranged to purchase salt brine from Thurston County Public Works. During snow and ice events, salt brine is applied to our roads to prevent snow and ice adhesion to pavement.
Without the ability to make our own salt brine and no local vendors who can supply it, Thurston County is our best option for acquiring salt brine each year.

Our response to snow and ice weather events includes plowing and de-icing. Our response procedures prioritize lifeline routes, which serve medical facilities, transit, and fire stations. This operation provides mobility and safety for essential travel, including support for transit services. Facilitating transit use is important for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
