Background and Analysis:
The Old Port 1 Lift Station was constructed in 1970, and although well maintained and performing adequately, the City has concerns about the long-term resiliency of the lift station. This project proactively addresses an emerging system performance issue.

The lift station is located less than 25-feet from Budd Inlet, and a pump failure would result in a raw sewage spill into Puget Sound. The lift station is down slope of a small ravine, with the existing force main running up the ravine. The ravine experienced a partial slide in 2014, exposing the lift station's buried electrical conduit. A larger slide could damage the force main, and/or bury lift station components.

This project will replace the existing Old Port 1 Lift Station with a new lift station and route the force main away from the ravine. The new lift station is located as far as allowable from the base of the ravine, and the new force main location provides protection from future slides.

Climate Analysis:
This project will provide a newer, more efficient lift station while also providing greater protection in the event of a landslide. Should a slide damage the existing lift station, portable pumps or a Vactor truck would be necessary to empty the lift station while the lift station is repaired. For these reasons, this project supports str...
