Background and Analysis:
On November 2, 2020, the Olympia City Council selected the law firm of Ogden Murphy Wallace, P.L.L.C. to serve as Police Auditor. The purpose of the Police Auditor is to increase public trust and confidence in the Police Department by providing an independent review and audit of the Police Department’s internal investigations regarding complaints against the Olympia Police Department or its employees.
The Auditor has recommended the City and the Olympia Police Department continue monitoring and assessing the provision and efficacy of the Department’s complaint process to ensure the Department meets the community’s expectations of accountability and transparency.
Chief Allen will provide an update on what the City has done to improve the process for community members to file complaints.
