Background and Analysis:

With outages on hanging lights already established downtown and the takedown of a set of lights for construction, it has been brought to our attention by PBIA members on behalf of business owners that there is a need for a more established plan in regards to maintenance and hanging of lights.

Climate Analysis:

With community members not having a safe place to walk, could encourage more folks to drive to the places they need to be versus walking.

Equity Analysis:

The fixing of alley lighting would ensure there is a broader and more equitable way for folks on foot to commute from their business or home utilizing downtown alleyway shortcuts.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

Not maintaining lighting for dark alleyways could create a safety issue with those in our community who utilize the alleyways of downtown Olympia at night to get to and from work, home, or other activities. It could reinforce existing disparities of safety between those who work/run errands during the day versus at night.

Financial Impact:

If monetary funds are needed to maintain lights, that would have a financial impact worth discussing with this group.
