Background and Analysis:
The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Center for Quality Communities scholarship supports senior high school students who are actively engaged with their community and/or city government and who plan to pursue post-secondary education.

Six $1,200 scholarships will be awarded to high school students who plan to pursue a post-secondary education.

Julianna Hoza is an Olympia High School student with a 4.0 GPA. She has a strong interest in biology and is a steadfast advocate of environmental stewardship. Ms. Hoza has been accepted to Western Washington University beginning fall 2018 to study Environmental Science.

Through the Earth Corps Club Ms. Hoza's work includes decontaminating (by hand) compost, habitat restoration projects and efforts to reduce the use of plastic water bottles in her school. Outside of the Earth Corps Club, she has formed a hiking club (which has received several awards) and has worked several summers maintaining trails for the Washington Trails Association. In 2017, Ms. Hoza organized a group to represent youth trail users at the annual Hiker Rally Day in Olympia.
