Informal discussion/consultation regarding proposed window improvements at two residences in the South Capitol Historic District.

Background and Analysis:
Two properties have reached out to the Heritage Commission regarding design advice for window replacements/restorations. Both properties are located in the South Capitol Historic District, which is part of the National Register of Historic Places.
221 20th Ave SW:
Lauren reached out to the City to inquire about renovating the non-original windows on her historic home, the Judge French House (OHR 91-6), to restore the historic appearance of the structure by replicating the historic window style of the structure.
121 19th Ave SW:
Patrick is exploring the feasibility and design recommendations for replacing windows on the McCoy/Trullinger House (OHR 02-02) and would like the committees opinion on what types of new windows would comply with historic preservation standards.
Climate Analysis:
Following the NPS guidelines encourages repair of historic material as much as possible, which reduces the introduction of more waste to landfills. If repair is not feasible, use of historic, often natural, locally sourced materials, is then encouraged, which reduces environmental impacts of the work. Replacing and renovating the windows provides an opportunity for the homes to be more energy efficient, while still maintaining the quality of design and the historic nature of the structures.
