Whether to approve payment for long term care for retired LEOFF 1 member.

Background:
LEOFF 1 member has terminal cancer and has recently gone into hospice care. The member’s spouse is unable to provide 24 hour care and is requesting in home care by a licensed care giver to stay with the member overnight, 7 nights a week. His spouse prefers in home care instead of a long term care facility because per the hospice nurse, his life expectancy is 3 to 4 weeks, possibly slightly longer and the family would not be allowed to be with him at a LTC facility due to the pandemic. The spouse is currently working with hospice to hire a caregiver with the cost being approximately $30.00 per hour.
The cost for this service is estimated to be up to $3,000.00 per week and is within the amount called out in the LEOFF policies for LTC. This request is in accordance with LEOFF policies and procedures.
