Issue:

Discussion of the option to hold a Planning Commission retreat and potential topics to be considered.

Staff Contact:

Joyce Phillips, Senior Planner, Community Planning and Development, 360.570.3722

Background and Analysis:

The Planning Commission has the option of holding a retreat each year.  The retreat is an opportunity to discuss topics of interest to the Commission, to learn more about city efforts on topics of interest to the Commission, and to bring in speakers on selected topics.

Retreats are generally held on a Saturday and the amount of time depends on the number of topics to be discussed.  However, the Commission can choose to hold the retreat in the evening or on the weekend.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

As with all Planning Commission meetings, the retreat is a public meeting and members of the public may choose to attend all or parts of the retreat.  The agenda will be posted in advance of the retreat so members of the public can determine whether or not to attend.

Options:

1.                     Decide to hold a retreat in 2016 and discuss potential topics to address at the retreat.

2.                     Decide not to hold a retreat in 2016.

3.                     Continue discussion regarding whether or not to hold a retreat in 2016.

Financial Impact:

None.  The option for the Planning Commission to hold a retreat is included in the Planning Commission’s annual work plan.
