Background and Analysis:

Each year in May, the City of Olympia celebrates our local history and heritage by declaring May to be Heritage Month.

Climate Analysis:

Retention of existing/historic buildings is one of the least impactful approaches as it does not require new construction. It reduces the introduction of more waste to landfills. Honoring historic preservation projects encourages participation historic preservation which will only improve the City’s carbon footprint.

Equity Analysis:

Historic preservation projects and other forms of historic preservation increases accessibility for everyone to experience history. The Commission has made concerted efforts to identify opportunities to be as inclusive as possible of non-majority populations.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

The community has a great interest in celebrating and preserving its history.

None
