Issue:
Approval of alternate elements for Walking on Land by Water by Carolyn Law for West Bay sidewalk project, following receipt of construction bid.
The base bid for construction associated with Walking on Land by Water includes four long walls with 6 cast in place poems and a variety of wood-themed form liners. Additions of sparklecrete elements and stamped poetry into the sidewalk project were approved as alternates, to be included in the project or not, depending on bids. Construction bids for West Bay sidewalk will be received July 8. Engineering estimates by the City are projecting $6500 for sparklecrete and $13,950 for poetry stamping - and bids may come in higher or lower.
Staff will have artist input to present at Commission meeting as well as bid numbers and recommendation by the Art in Public Places Committee.
Options:
1. Move to add sparklecrete component to Walking on Land by Water.
2. Move to add poetry stamping component to Walking on Land by Water.
3. Move to add both sparklecrete and poetry stamping to Walking on Land by Water.
4. Move to add no additional components to Walking on Land by Water.
Financial Impact:
$310,983 in Municipal Art Fund as of 3-10-14.
