Background and Analysis:
The purpose of the Social Justice & Equity Commission (SJEC) is to "eliminate racism and fulfill human rights for a just and equitable Olympia for all people." The Commission works to fulfill this purpose by advising the City Council and City staff, assisting with community outreach, and recommending approaches to address discrimination in our community.
The SJEC does not currently have written and officially adopted group commitments to guide discussions and the work of the commission during its meetings. Group commitments help create a safe and inclusive environment for discussion, promoting the City's values of compassion, integrity, and effectiveness. Group commitments also support the Commission's values of humility, authenticity, compassion, humor, curiosity and love being centered in their discussions.
At the October 2025 SJEC retreat commissioners drafted a list of group commitments to consider adopting to support future meeting structure. At the December 1, 2025 meeting commissioners will have opportunity to continue the discussion and adopt group commitments.

This is not expected to have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
