Recommendation on Medela Site Specific Proposed Olympia/Thurston Joint Plan Amendment and Rezoning

Body
Thurston County is considering joint plan amendments and related rezones within Olympia's Urban Growth Area (UGA). The County plans in conjunction with the City for unincorprated areas in Olympia's UGA. This proposal is to amend the land use designation and rezone a portion of an unincorporated UGA island at 8th SE and Steele St to a higher density. This is an applicant driven proposal, which is referred to as the Medela Site Specific Rezone.

Background and Analysis: Staff reports and background materials are attached.

The Olympia Planning Commission was briefed on September 17, 2012, and held a joint public hearing with the Thurston County Planning Commission October 10, 2012. The Planning Commission will deliberate and make a recommendation this evening.

Future Meeting Dates:
October 22 - Olympia Planning Commission will deliberate on their recommendation, meeting starts at 6:30pm at Olympia City Hall.
November 5 - Olympia City Council public hearing, meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall.
November 7 (Anticipated Date) - Thurston County Planning Commission will deliberate on their recommendation, meeting starts at 7:00pm at the Thurston County Courthouse.
November 20 - Olympia City Council deliberation and decision on first reading, meeting starts at 7:00p.m. at City Hall
December 11 - Olympia City Council final decision (typically does not involve further discussion, just a technical and final decision on the matter.)

After that, the City Council’s decision will be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners, who will deliberate and make a final decision in early 2013.
