Background:
Historically, the LEOFF Board updates policies and procedures every few years. In 2023 Fire and Police policies and procedures were separated into two documents. At that time, the city purchased health insurance policies for the LEOFF 1 retirees had substantial differences which necessitated the separation of the policies. In January 2026, the city purchased health insurance policies are purchased for both groups through Association of Washington Cities (AWC) and are the same policy with the same benefits. Staff wishes to combine the two policies into a single document beginning in 2026.
Other areas of interest for updates are long term care, hearing aids and dental benefits.
