Background and Analysis:
At the January 9 meeting, the Arts Commission discussed cover art proposals by Lynette Charters for the spring 2025 Arts Walk cover and Mikaela Shafer for the fall 2025 Arts Walk cover.
Commissioners appreciated the design and artwork of both pieces. They also requested Ms. Charters consider a Matilda - a construct that "publicizes the contributions of important but overlooked women in history” - with a subject specifically from Olympia.
After conversation with the artist, staff reached out to a historian involved with the Olympia Historical Society and Bigelow House Museum website for recommendations of contributing women to Olympia’s history.
Ms. Strauss-Tomy will return with another artwork for Commission review and discussion.
