Report

Issue:

Update on the Neighborhood Centers project.

Staff Contact/Presenter:

Cari Hornbein, Senior Planner, Community Planning and Development, 360.753.8048

Background and Analysis:

Staff briefed the Planning Commission on the Neighborhood Centers project in January, outlining the scope of work and schedule. Since then, the consulting team (MAKERS Architecture and Urban Design, Leland Consulting Group) has completed three of the six major tasks outlined in the scope of work - demographic profiles, market analysis, and centers evaluation. Outcomes from these tasks are incorporated into two reports, attached below. Staff will provide an overview of these reports as well as outcomes from the virtual open house on Wednesday, July 13, and in-person ‘pop-up’ sessions on Saturday, July 16.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

Neighborhood centers garnered a lot of interest during the last Comprehensive Plan update in 2014. Upcoming public engagement events and online survey (available on Engage Olympia from July 13 - August 5) will be good indicators of current interest in neighborhood centers.

Options:

None at this time; briefing only.

Financial Impact:

The project is being funded out of the Community Planning and Development Department’s base budget.
