Background and Analysis:
The City entered into a services agreement with Thurston County in 2009 to provide radio maintenance services because the City does not have in-house expertise to do this work.

The Olympia Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works Department, and Parks Department use both vehicle-mounted radios and hand-held personal radios while performing tasks and responding to emergencies. Having these radios in top working condition at all times is essential to employee safety and effective operations.

It is estimated that this agreement with Thurston County has reduced radio repair costs by one-third to one-half from the costs to have the work done in a commercial shop. Additionally, Thurston County performs work on-site, reducing vehicle down time and transport costs.

Renewing the services agreement would continue to save the City on repair and maintenance costs and reduce vehicle down time.
