Background and Analysis:
The Stormwater Retrofit Project will improve water quality in Budd Inlet by installing six bioretention swales with underdrains in city owned right-of-way. The project area is located along Rogers Street (between Langridge Avenue and Hays Avenue) and Hays Avenue (between Rogers Street and Cedar Lane).
The proposed improvements will treat stormwater runoff by removing pollutants such as total suspended solids, copper, and zinc. The project will also reduce localized surface flooding on Rogers Street by diverting peak flows and providing stormwater retention. In total, the project will provide treatment for 16.6 acres of previously untreated drainage area.
These improvements will enhance pedestrian safety and walkability and are occurring as a result of coordination between the Storm and Surface Water Utility (Utility) and the Transportation Division.
Sidewalks will be constructed concurrently on the west side of Rogers Street between Langridge Avenue and Hays Avenue, improving pedestrian safety and walkability. This work reflects coordination between the Storm and Surface Water Utility and the Transportation Division.
