Background and Analysis:
Training to provide Commissioners with knowledge to better understand Historic Preservation and other relevant topics. This session will be focused on a walkthrough of Cultural Resource protection and preservation.

Exposure to a variety of training topics fosters understanding of different cultures, experiences, and viewpoints, which helps reduce biases and increases informed decision making.

The City honors and acknowledges the Indigenous people who have stewarded this land since time immemorial and who still inhabit the area today. The Steh-Chass Band of Indigenous people of the Squaxin Island Tribe and City of Olympia honor the Medicine Creek Treaty and have established a strong government-to-government relationship. An accord signed in 2021 commits both governing bodies to coordination on economic and infrastructure opportunities, natural resource protections, climate change response and opportunities for healthy cultural exchange through public art, education and community service.
