Background and Analysis:
Each year the City Council appoints members of the community to sit on a variety of advisory committees including the Social Justice and Equity Commission. In March Council appointed three new members to fill vacant positions on the Social Justice and Equity Commission. Current commissioners expressed a desire to have a full commission team building opportunity to create strong foundational relationships between commissioners to further the group's ability to work collaboratively on upcoming projects. This meeting will be a combination of team building exercises for the full commission, and onboarding information for the new commissioners.

Climate Analysis:
This is not expected to have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

Equity Analysis:
The Commission's purpose is to "eliminate racism and fulfill human rights for a just and equitable Olympia for all people." The Commission works to fulfill this purpose in a variety of ways including enabling those from historically marginalized communities to have a voice in City government. Providing opportunities for the commissioners to build relationships with one another and create an environment where everyone feels empowered to voice their opinion supports the commission's ability to enable those from historically marginalized communities to have a voice in City government.
