Report
Issue:
The updated Olympia Comprehensive Plan adopted in December of 2014 provides that, “The City will annually provide information to citizens on affordable housing, family incomes, and market-rate housing.” Consistent with this directive, City staff will be preparing the first such report, tentatively entitled ‘State of Housing in Olympia,’ for release in 2017. For this January 2016 agenda item the City staff will provide Commission members with a snapshot of the types of information that may be included.
As the attached 2013 report indicates, housing issues span municipal boundaries. Information may be drawn from the United States Census, Thurston Regional Planning Council, U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), locally issued building permit records, state agencies, and other sources Commission members may take this opportunity to discuss housing issues in general and to provide comments and suggestions to ensure that the comprehensive report in 2017 will be consistent with the vision of the Plan.
