Background and Analysis:
Role of the Regional Transportation Plan
Updated every five years, the Thurston Regional Transportation Plan serves many functions, including:

* It acknowledges and plans for the diversity of transportation needs in the Thurston region.
* It supports coordination among jurisdictions.
* It identifies long-term regional projects that will change the way people move throughout the region.
* It fulfills state and federal requirements for transportation planning at the regional level, ensuring continued coordination and a regional vision for the Thurston region's transportation system.

Schedule
TRPC is conducting an online open house on the draft Regional Transportation Plan. Staff has attached a link to the open house if Commissioners are interested in reviewing it or the draft plan ahead of this meeting, but we do not expect you to review either before this briefing. We are only providing this additional information for those who are interested.

TRPC is accepting public comments through May 9th. They expect to adopt the updated plan by July 11th this year.

Relationship to Olympia's Comprehensive Plan
This Commission is closely involved with the update to Olympia's Comprehensive Plan, which is currently underway. The Transportation Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan must be consistent with the Regional Transportation Plan.

Climate Analysis:
The Regional Transportation Plan has goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle miles traveled at the regional level.
