Joint Meeting with Olympia Planning Commission Regarding the Shoreline Master Program

· Transmittal of documents related to Shoreline Master Program update.
· Address timeline and process for the Shoreline Master Program update.

City Manager’s Recommendation:
Conduct the second of two joint study sessions with the Planning Commission. Seek individual and collective input from the Planning Commission regarding their recommendations on the Draft Shoreline Master Program. Review and accept the proposed SMP update schedule.

Background and Analysis:
On May 1, 2012, the City Council held the first of two joint study sessions with the Olympia Planning Commission. This first meeting provided a high level introduction to the Shoreline Management Act and Shoreline Master Program update and opened up a dialogue between the City Council and Planning Commission Leadership Team regarding the update process. In addition, position statements from Planning Commissioners were transmitted to the City Council at the May 1st meeting.

This second study session will give City Council an opportunity to ask Commissioners about their recommendations in order to understand unresolved issues and alternative positions. Also to be addressed at this meeting:
