Issue:
Should the City provide parliamentary and meeting management training for City Council, advisory committee chairs, and/or staff?
 
Committee Recommendation:
To be developed.
 
City Manager's Recommendation:
Agree on type and scope of training. Advisory committee chairs have previously asked for meeting management training. Staff would also benefit from this type of training.

Background and Analysis:
This summer, Councilmember Roe attended at session at the Association of Washington Cities annual conference about parliamentary procedure and meeting management conducted by a principal with the firm Jurassic Parliament. She reported to the Council about the session and requested a referral for General Government Committee to prepare a recommendation on possible training for City Council and advisory committee chairs. Staff is also interested in this type of training. Advisory Committee Chairs requested that the City provide this type of training in past discussions with General Government Committee, and one of Council's goals this year is to "Strengthen Council Relationships and Involvement with Advisory Committees."
