Shoreline Master Program Workshop with Non-Governmental Agencies and Organizations

Issue:
On August 21, 2012 City Council directed staff to move forward with the draft Shoreline Master Program Workshop schedule. Council agreed at this meeting to hold its third workshop meeting on September 25, 2012 with non-governmental agencies and organizations.

Background and Analysis:
The City Council recently began its own process to consider the Shoreline Master Program Update. City Council conducted a Shoreline Education and Workshop session on July 28, 2012. On August 21, 2012 City Council considered a proposed schedule that included workshop meetings on September 11, September 25, October 2nd and November 3, 2012. Council agreed to move forward with the next three workshop meetings and asked that an Other Business item be added to its October 16th City Council Agenda to provide an opportunity to consider next steps and whether additional workshop meetings are advisable.

Staff is including a spread sheet with information on all parcels fronting the marine shoreline as Attachment 2. This information will serve as the basis for staff's overview of the built environment.

As indicated in the schedule attached to the August 21, 2012 staff report and as further refined by the Land Use Environment Committee on August 24, 2012 and included as Attachment 1, this meeting is intended to provide Council with an opportunity to, hear interests and positions from business associations, neighborhood associations with an interest in the shoreline, environmental organizations and discuss desired outcomes and possible solutions.
