Background and Analysis:
The National Trust for Historic Preservation established Historic Preservation month in 1973 to encourage communities to promote historic places in order to support a sense of pride, promote preservation as a means of supporting economic vitality and tourism, and motivate people to preserve the places which make their communities special. This year, the Heritage Commission’s Outreach Committee has selected the theme of Olympia’s Maritime Heritage. The team has planned a community outreach event to take place during Wooden Boat Festival, the weekend of May 10th and 11th. The event will take place at Percival Landing and the Farmers Market. The Outreach Committee will discuss plans for the event and ways that Commission members can be involved that weekend.
