Move to approve the resolution to authorize purchase of liability coverage

This resolution allows the Olympia Metropolitan Park District (OMPD) President to take the necessary actions to obtain liability coverage to protect the District as well as its board, officers, employees, and volunteers against liability claims.

Background and Analysis:
The OMPD is a metropolitan park district authorized under Chapters 35.61, 67.20, and 84.52 RCW. The OMPD was created by certification of the election results on November 24, 2016, and is a municipal corporation legally separate from the City of Olympia. As an independent legal entity, the OMPD may sue and be sued, therefore, it is prudent that the OMPD obtain liability coverage for protection.
