Background and Analysis:

The Nisqually Indian Tribal Council is hosting a dinner to celebrate and recognize the historic agreement to transfer McAllister Springs from the City of Olympia to the Tribe.

In 2008, the City of Olympia began using the McAllister Wellfield instead of McAllister Springs as a water source for the City.  As part of the process of moving to the new wellfield, the City agreed to preserve the Springs and its associated 180 forested acres.  Now, in 2017, through an agreement with the Nisqually Tribe, ownership of the historic and culturally important Springs will now be transferred to the tribe.
