Background and Analysis:

The City of Olympia has embarked on a historic property survey of the city’s historic commercial core.  The information gathered from this study will support preservation planning recommendations that have evolved out of the City’s Downtown Strategy master planning process as well as the Commission’s other outreach and planning activities.  Funding for this project is provided by an $18,000 grant from DAHP and a $5,000 Thurston County Heritage Grant.

Following review by a selection committee that consisted of Heritage Chair Holly Davies, Heritage Commissioner Katherine Kelly, Michael Houser (DAHP) and Vida Zvirzdys-Farler (Director of the Olympia Downtown Association), the City hired Artifacts Historic Preservation to serve as consultants for the project (Attachments 1 & 2).

At this workshop, the Commission and other interested members of the public will learn about the survey, meet the consultant team, and offer insights into Downtown Olympia’s significant historic places.
