Background and Analysis:

The City of Olympia hired Artifacts Consulting, Inc. to complete a “reconnaissance level” historic property survey of Downtown Olympia.  The scope of the project was to make a visual inspection of all buildings located within an area of approximately 75 blocks to consider their historical character.  Part of the study has involved the evaluation of the visual significance of each building which is 45 years old or older.

The project will result in an illustrated report as well as individual Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) Historic Property Inventory (HPI) reports for each building.  Tonight’s presentation will summarize the project’s findings.

The City of Olympia received two grants to hire the project consultant:

$18,000.00 Certified Local Government (CLG) grant through DAHP, and

                     $5,000.00 Thurston County Heritage Grant.
