Background and Analysis:
The owners of the former Capital Savings & Loan Association building at 425 Franklin Street Southeast have submitted a nomination to the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) to place the building on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). DAHP is the agency responsible for processing these applications for properties in Washington State.
This nomination will be reviewed by the Governor’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation at a meeting on March 8, 2018. As part of the Council’s review, it will consider the recommendation of the Olympia Heritage Commission as the Certified Local Government whose jurisdiction this application falls within.
The attachments to this staff report provide Commissioners with, DAHP’s letter to the Commission (Attachment 1), the nomination form (Attachment 2), and the form which will be filled out and returned to DAHP indicating the Commission’s recommendation (Attachment 3).
