Background and Analysis:
The Olympia Historical Society & Bigelow House Museum (OHS&BHM) has decided to apply for a Washington State Heritage Capital Grant to help the organization realize its goal of building an archive to house collections related to the history of the people and places of Olympia. This fund specifically supports heritage organizations that undertake capital projects with the goal of interpreting and preserving Washington's history and heritage. Non-profit organizations, tribes, and local government agencies may apply. Projects need to provide heritage preservation and/or interpretation. Each grant dollar must be matched with $2, half of which may be in-kind. The most recent Olympia recipient of this prestigious grant was the Olympia Film Society, run by one of the newest Heritage Commissioners, Audrey Henley.
The OHS&BHM has sent a letter (Attachment 1) requesting a letter of support from the Heritage Commission. Tonight the Commission will decide whether to provide this letter. If so, Ms. Sadlier will present a rough draft letter that the Commission may choose to edit or approve as written for this purpose.
