Background and Analysis:

On Saturday, April 14, Councilmembers Jessica Bateman and Lisa Parshley, on behalf of the Finance Committee, hosted a Community Conversation.  The purpose was to listen to citizens’ perspectives on the top priorities for the City so that City Council can use those perspectives to inform the City’s budget investments over the next two years.

City staff invited participants who collectively reflect a demographically representative sample of Olympia citizens, including citizens who typically do not participate in traditional city outreach and engagement processes.

Staff will share and discuss highlights from the conversation, including who attended, participant survey results, what worked well, ideas for improvement, and how to incorporate what was heard from citizens into the budget process.

Neighborhood/Community Interest:

Opportunities for the City to better engage with citizens are of high community interest.
