Background and Analysis:
Each year at the City Council’s annual retreat in January, individual Councilmembers are assigned to represent the Council and the City on an array of intergovernmental and other committees. The assignments require various levels of time commitment and energy from the individual Councilmembers.
Currently, there are approximately 17 intergovernmental committees, from Animal Services to the Visitors and Convention Bureau. There are also six other committees, such as the Artesian Leadership Team, to which Council are assigned. Councilmembers also serve as Council liaisons to six Council-appointed citizen advisory boards and commissions, as well as serve on the three Council Committees: Finance, General Government and Land Use and Environment.
