Title
Heritage Review Committee Discussion: Development of a “Windows” Brochure for Homeowners and Contractors
Report
Issue:
At the last meeting of the Heritage Review Committee, meeting Committee Member Swalling rekindled the idea of developing a helpful windows preservation brochure for homeowners and contractors. HRC members have discussed the idea in the past and had assigned themselves tasks related to design and development of a brochure. Member Swalling encouraged the members present to complete their tasks so the HRC could move towards a workable draft document.
Community Planning and Development staff have included two items for inspiration and reference - one from the City of Boise Planning and Development Services Division and the North End Neighborhood Association, Preserving the Charm of Historic Windows, and another annotated bibliography of articles, standards, and general information from the Window Preservation Alliance (WPA).
The Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) also has a variety of links to documents and websites regarding historic wood window retention vs. replacement, window rehabilitation and window upgrades. The information can be found on their website titled “Window Preservation Guidance”, <https://dahp.wa.gov/historic-preservation/research-topics/window-preservation-guidance>.
