Background and Analysis:

On June 19 the Independent Salary Commission directed City staff to research health care insurance options for City Council. The Commission’s stated goal is to provide insurance to any councilmember who needs it or wants to participate in a plan. Staff researched the following information as directed by the Salary Commission:

 

§                     Other municipalities under a Council-Manager form of government

§                     Insurance coverage from the Association of Washington Cities

§                     Health Savings Accounts

§                     Voluntary Employee Benefit Account (VEBA)

 

Staff will present the findings to the Salary Commission on June 26, 2019. This information will be used to establish the compensation for the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and Council for the City of Olympia.

1.                     Accept the information and discuss the findings.

2.                     Direct staff to research additional information and present at the next scheduled Salary Commission meeting.
