Background and Analysis:

On behalf of the Olympia Transportation Benefit District (TBD), the Washington State Department of Licensing collects a $40 fee at the time a registered vehicle is renewed within the City of Olympia. The funds collected are used to improve, maintain, and construct local transportation projects. Improving Fones Road is one of the major transportation projects that will use TBD funding (as well as other revenue sources) for construction. Construction is currently planned for 2022/2023.

Improvements that benefit all modes of transportation will be constructed along the Fones Road corridor from Pacific Avenue to 18th Avenue.  These improvements will include lane reconfigurations, a roundabout, protected bike lanes, sidewalks, crossing enhancements, and paving. Staff will present the highlights of the most recent scope of work that is currently under design.
