Background and Analysis:

City Manager Steven R. Hall has given the City notice of his retirement at the conclusion of business on November 7, 2019.  The Olympia City Council is vested with the authority under state law to designate a qualified administrative officer to perform the duties of manager as prescribed by law.  The Council seeks to employ an Interim City Manager starting November 8, 2019, with the appropriate executive and administrative qualifications and knowledge of the accepted practice in duties of a city manager.  The Interim City Manager Employment Agreement with Steven J. (“Jay”) Burney will fulfill Council’s goals while the Council weighs its options.

Options:

1.                     Adopt the resolution approving the Interim City Manager Employment Agreement with Steven J. (“Jay”) Burney.

Financial Impact:

Base salary will be $175,249.59 per year, which is comparable to current City Manager salary compensation.
