Background and Analysis:

The Parks maintenance headquarters at Priest Point Park is comprised of single-story, wooden structures built in the 40’s and 50’s.  The facility is significantly undersized and does not meet the operational needs of the parks maintenance staff.

In 2016, the City commissioned a feasibility study to explore renovating/rebuilding a new maintenance facility that combined the public works and parks departments. The goal of the study was to evaluate rebuilding/remodeling  a new PW/Parks Maintenance Center, determine the facility and property needs, and provide planning level construction cost estimates.

The study concluded that the Priest Point facility is deficient in spatial requirements, presents safety hazards, is not secure, does not have adequate storage, and does not comply with ADA requirements. The limited space prevents keeping certain equipment dry and results in storing equipment inefficiently. The feasibility study concluded that all programs could be located in a new facility constructed at the existing PW Maintenance Center site (1401 Eastside Street SE), and that the Priest Point Park facility should be remodeled to change the function to a satellite storage facility with minimal operations staff.
