Public Notification:

Public notice of the retreat was distributed in an e-news release on November 12, 2019, Public Release & Public Notices.

Presenters:

Board Member Virginia Sorrels

Board Member Bassim Kreem

Background and Analysis:

The Olympia Design Review Board will hold an annual retreat on Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the Olympia Center, Room 200. This portion of the retreat will focus attention on the potential for minor Design Review Code, OMC 18.100, fixes and/or amendments to older problematic design requirements.

Board Members Sorrels and Kreem will present an argument for expanding the scope and meaning of open space requirements for multi-family residential development in Olympia (OMC 18.170.040). The Board Members will bring examples of design code requirements from neighboring jurisdictions with the intent of starting a conversation - is there room for improvement and clarification regarding this particular design review requirement?
