Background

The fire department has requested a fire paramedic lieutenant promotional register. The department anticipates filling one vacancy in 2020.

The proposed testing process includes an assessment center using the services of Public Safety Testing to conduct an exam consisting of a tactical exercise, oral board, coaching/counseling exercise, and a technical and leadership panel interview. The minimum passing score for the dimensions evaluated is 70%, and the register rank will the assessment center percentage.

The following process is proposed:

1.                     Application will open on November 19th and close on December 3rd.

2.                     Candidate Workshop December 5th.

3.                     Written Exam January 7th.

4.                     Assessment Center January 14th, and 15th if necessary, conducted by Public Safety Testing.  Assessment Center stations are correlated to a Job Task Analysis conducted at OFD.

5.                     Civil Service Certification, January 21st.

6.                     Chief Interview

7.                     Potential start date February 1, 2020.

Findings:

A Fire Paramedic Lieutenant Promotional Register is needed to fill a vacancy in the fire department.  The proposed testing plan will evaluate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of candidates to perform the classification.
