Background and Analysis:
Since the Washington State Department of Health confirmed the first case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Washington State on January 21, 2020, several steps have been taken to limit the spread in Washington and Thurston County. This has included maintaining six-foot physical distancing in local homeless shelters. As a result, there has been a reduction in shelter capacity. The City seeks to replace some of the lost shelter beds by temporarily making the 4,000 square foot building and associated parking lot located at 2828 Martin Way available to Interfaith Works to provide shelter for adults who are most at risk of contracting coronavirus.

Under the agreement, Interfaith Works will provide overnight shelter to vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness. Interfaith Works will provide management of the facility, including all personnel, materials and supplies necessary to maintain the facility in a safe and clean manner and to support the needs of the shelter guests.
