Background and Analysis:
The Squaxin Island Tribe and the City of Olympia have worked collaboratively for years to create a strong and enduring government-to-government relationship. This relationship is fundamental to our ability to work collaboratively on items of mutual interest. For example, the City and the Tribe have conferred and cooperated on a number of critical issues such as the development of water rights, conservation stewardship agreements, shoreline and habitat restoration projects, and more.
The resigning of an accord between the Squaxin Island Tribe and the City of Olympia reaffirms our continuing efforts to communicate, consult, and cooperate on infrastructure projects, natural resource efforts, and educational and cultural opportunities.
The signing ceremony will include drumming, signing, and prayer. After the signing the City will raise the Squaxin Island Tribe Flag over City Hall and there will be an unveiling of a land acknowledgment plaque.
