Background and Analysis:

The Commission’s Work Plan includes developing a recommendation on a preferred civilian oversight model that meets the needs of the Olympia community for Council’s consideration.

 

Through a competitive process, the City retained the services of SDMC Consulting to support this effort. SDMC has expertise in law enforcement oversight models, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

 

This agenda item will provide the Commission the opportunity to meet the project team, discuss the project objectives, planned approach, and timeline.

 

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

Community groups, those most impacted by policing, and underrepresented community groups have requested a civilian oversight model that meets the needs of the community with the goal of building trust and legitimacy in the City’s public safety system.

Financial Impact:

The estimated cost for this project is $90,250 and is appropriated in the 2023 operating budget.
